Curls Cleansing Cream, Milkshake and Whipped Souffle Review

Have you tried Curls Products before? Here is a full review of the products I received from Curls.

Cleansing Cream: I used the cleansing cream to wash after a pre-poo treatment.  It was strong enough to remove the oils from my hair, but gentle enough to finger detangle.  To be honest, this product wasn’t a home run at first use, but I’m def. eager to re-use (especially since I have about half of the sample to tackle) before making a decision about repurchasing. TO BE CONTINUED…
UPDATE:  I’m officially over cleansing creams.  There’s just something about the texture that I’m not a fan of.  That, mixed with the fact that I end up using more product in efforts to evenly disperse it throughout my hair.  Today I purposely skipped sectioning my hair, as I always do to wash/ cowash/ condition/ deep condition, just to see how this would settle in my nest.  Oh my goodness!… It took everything inside of me to keep from crying lol.  The tangles were that bad.  Before starting this crazy “SLS free, cleansing creams only” frenzy, I have used shampoos that have melted into my hair, easily allowing me to finger detangle, while scrubbing my scalp.  This product was not such a shampoo. Just to clarify- this has nothing to do with the lack of lather or sudsing.  I just think the consistency was far too thick for my hair, which made it clump to where ever it landed.  I had to douse my hair with Aussie Moist (always my savior) just to get the tangles out!  This is not to mention the dry, stripped feeling my hair had immediately after rinsing everything clean.  I think I’ll stick to the regular shampoos- yes, liquids- for now.  Fail!

Sublime Conditioner: I want more samples of this conditioner.  It was very hard to get a first impression because I had so many other factors working at the same time. On the upside- it smells so yummy!!! Though I have less than half of the 2oz sample remaining, I would like to use this as a leave in, in order to tell it’s true moisturizing capabilities. TO BE CONTINUED…
UPDATE: The same goes for thick wash out conditioners.  Not necessary. The only time I should be using a conditioner that sticks to my hand (when turned upside down) is when I am deep conditioning.  If even.  I hated the fact that Aubrey Organics Honey Suckle Rose conditioner has the consistency of hardened cottage cheese, and this conditioner was not far behind. It was goopy and akward to apply.  Then again, it could have been because I was scooping out of a 2oz jar, as opposed to a 16oz bottle with a pump. Perhaps thats where the problem lies. I hear that it’s great as a leave in, which is even more destressing to me because this means I’d have to apply this extremely thick conditioner to my hair section by section, piece my piece.  I don’t have that kind of time.  Fail!

Now on to the importante!!:

Souffle:  Hmm… In the beginning stages, I compared this to Cantu Leave in, and promised to never pay 14.99 for something I can get for 5.97.  But truth be told, it’s nowhere near Cantu Leave in.  To begin, Cantu is thinner and does not play well with other products.  The souffle is a bit thicker and I’m sure would mesh well with an oil or even the Curls Whipped Cream.  I only used it once, but I will need to postpone this review for a later time. (See below.)

Whipped Cream: I love the smell and the texture is great! It’s not thin and watery, it’s not too thick or buttery.  Because my hair is so fine, a lot of stylers (such as raw shea butter) are waaay to rough in application- so this smooth creamy texture was just what my hair needs. I’m a little scared to try it as a styler (on a braid out, for example) which is actually it’s suggested use.  I apply it to my edges for a “smoothing” effect, and it does dry a bit hard, reminding me of a light gel.  This is perhaps due to the aloe. I will continue using on my edges, possibly moving up to the rest of my hair as a styler (after my low aloe challenge has ceased) as I’m sure I’d need a very good moisturizer underneath.

Milkshake: Oh.em.gee.  I just knew that the moment this touched my hair, I had found my one true love. My hair was airy (not weighed down), fluffy yet defined, and oh so gorgeous.  The first time I tried it with Aussie Moist as a leave in.

The second time, I applied the Milkshake alone.

I was in LOOOOOVE… by far my best hair days.  This is… until my hair dried.  My hair wasn’t as soft as I’d like, and although it wasn’t DULL, it wasn’t shiny.  (Hard to explain?)  Unfortunately, I ran out of the Milkshake sample before I could put it to the test again.  :o(

I have been thinking long and hard about what to do about the Curls products and re-ordering. Unfortunately, I have to shelf the rest of the Souffle sample (or give it away) because Corrine is on a low to no aloe diet.  I have been experiencing more shedding than usual, and I need to figure out who and what is the culprit. I have known early on that my hair didn’t like Aloe Vera as a leave in, but I tried oh so desperately to ignore it, wanting to blame it on other ingredients. But no, I am 80% sure it’s the aloe.  Just to be certain, I’m cutting out the aloe wherever I can. (This coming after I buy a liter of Aussie Moist, and Aubrey Organics Honey Suckle Rose Conditioner. Way to go Jen!) After my hair has gotten it together, I may slooowly reintroduce one or two Curls products… just to see if they were to blame. I shall keep you posted,  but for now- that’s the scoop!
