First things first: I purchased both products directly from mielleorganics.com, for $15.99 (hair milk) and $14.99 (deep conditioner) respectively. Presentation is very important for me, and I love the packaging of the products, and the pink confetti paper that comes in your package. It even included a pamphlet that contains a list of their hair products and how to use them. Now THIS is excellent branding and customer care. Okay, now on to the review.
Mielle Organics Avocado Moisturizing Hair Milk
I was very apprehensive about trying this hair milk because of the high aloe vera (the second ingredient, after water) and vegetable glycerin (the third ingredient) it contains. After researching and reading a number of product reviews, I decided to give this product a chance.
This hair milk does a curly good. I will caution that the lineup of humectants in this moisturizer may not make it ideal to use alone during the hot, humid months. Since I have fine hair that usually requires volume, I didn’t mind a little bit of swelling that came once I was outside for a while. I used this hair milk when I wore my hair in plaits on Monday, a braid out puff on Tuesday through Thursday, then a wash and go on Friday. It performed beautifully in each style, which is a big deal for me because I love the convenience of having one product I can use no matter how I style my hair. Oh yea, I’m serious about my multi-use products.
I love the consistency of this hair milk. Its super smooth and fluid. It’s light but it really packs a heavy punch in moisture. When I applied it to my hair, I could feel it sinking in, but it didn’t completely disappear, making me question if I needed to apply more. Okay, so here is the whole truth. I am in love with everything this product has to offer, but I am head over heels for this scent. It reminds me of oatmeal cookies!
Mielle Organics Babassu Oil and Mint Deep Conditioning Protein Treatment
This protein treatment is such a beautiful surprise. I was surprised when I opened the jar and saw how thick it looked- like that of a creamy custard- but completely thrown when I applied it to my hair and it glided through easier than some daily conditioners do. (Pictured above upside down, to show it’s staying power.) Its light texture proves that you don’t have to use a super thick deep conditioner with awkward slip, to get optimal results. A complete contradiction, I know, but I’m here for the way it left may hair. Word to Big Bird- my hair was the softest it’s been in FOREVER! I even asked the Mr. to touch my hair to confirm I wasn’t crazy. It’s confirmed, this deep conditioner was good to me. I am so sorry for underestimating you!
Now– I am incredibly sensitive to strong fragrances. I can get a migraine from walking into a perfume store. For me, this product, though amazing, IS overwhelming in fragrance. I’m not sure if it is the potency of the herbs and extracts in this conditioner, or the fragrance that they produce– but I was left with a headache that lingered all day. Call me a glutton for punishment, but I want to give this conditioner another try because this is the ONLY con for me. Next time I try, I’ll just be sure to have my Excedrin on deck.
Of course I need to know now, have you tried this line? Which product should I try next?
Wow awesome review! I was thinking about trying the DC but I’m a little scared to go away from my staple DC. I use Shea Moisture Yucca and Plantain DC, which works very well. But I thought I try something different. Would you say that this is a must try? Do you still use a few Mielle products yourself? Thanks!!

Hey love! Thank you so much! I still have Mielle Organics in my stash but I haven’t used them since this review because I’m pregnant and super sensitive to some fragrances. Even before this however, the strong minty smell of the DC was a little overwhelming for me. If you are okay with fragrance, I would say give it a try. I’m sure I’ll revisit it again after baby comes, but for now I’m sticking to a few other alternatives that are a little less expensive and pleasant on the nose! The moisture milk however, is an excellent moisturizer– and not as overwhelming in scent. 🙂
Thanks for clarifying! I’ll give them both a try
Good read. Interesting product, I would love to try this and hope it helps my hair. Thank you very much for sharing.
Can you use the moisturizing avocado hair milk by Mielle Organics on a baby’s hair? 6months of age?

Hi love! The hair milk is natural with organic ingredients so I trust using it for a baby’s hair. My son is 8 months old and I love it for his hair!
