In a previous post, I mentioned that I was using Shea Moisture’s Raw Shea Head to Toe Baby Wash and Shampoo (by +SheaMoisture Baby ) on J, until I make my own baby wash or find a suitable contender for her. Sadly, I had to change her wash because it’s a bit too strong for her super sensitive skin. (Like mommy, like baby!) Here’s a breakdown of what my experience was in the 2 weeks I used this H to T (head to toe) wash.
PROS:
~The wash smells great!
~It’s organic, which means no additives, no sulfates, no parabens, no chemicals!! I love this.
~It’s easily accessible and reasonably priced, in comparison to it’s competition in natural baby washes.
CONS:
~The wash smells great… but overwhelmingly so. I was already hesitant to use anything with fragrance on a baby, but I figured since it is scented with essential oils and nothing artificial, that all would be well. Unfor., this wasn’t the case. I used the wash once myself as well, and I was left with a migraine which lingered for 2 days. Smelling yummy definitely wasn’t worth the head trauma I went through!
~Tear free? Your guess is just as good as mine.
~I wish the bottle came with a pump! It can be tricky balancing a slippery baby while trying to work with a twist off bottle cap. Meh.
~Didn’t help with cradle cap, or redness J had prior to using. The main reason I chose this particular wash over the olive oil version is because of the healing properties of it’s main ingredients of Shea butter and chamomile. Would continuous use have brought about better results? I guess I’ll never know… but I wasn’t willing to subject baby’s skin to more trial and error!
~Although it’s hard to determine what exactly to attribute it to, SOMETHING in the wash is too harsh for baby J, as her skin broke out and was crazy dry in patches.
All in all, I am still a fan of the Shea Moisture brand, but this product was a miss in my book. I’m not confident in trying another baby product any time soon, but I can’t promise I won’t be tempted to take a whiff or two of some of their other yummy products!
