Our wash day went from tragedy to triumph!

Our wash day went from tragedy to triumph!

This past Sunday was wash day for J and I, and although I have yet to observe the final results of my pelo, I must say I am super impressed with the differences I noticed in the process.

Baby:

As for most, wash day started with preparing our hair for manipulation. I applied coconut oil to J’s hair (dry) as a pre-poo, and put it in two buns for a few hours.

After a day of spending time with family and running errands, J was first up for some hair pampering. Her process looks like this:

1.    Washed hair with Shea Moisture Sulfate Free shampoo, concentrating on her scalp.
2.    Rinsed and conditioned with Shea Moisture Curl and Shine conditioner.
3.    Combed the product through with a wide tooth shower comb and rinsed.
4.    Applied Camille Rose Moisture Milk to wet (but not dripping) hair and finger detangled
5.    Finger coiled her hair, making about 7-8 coils.

Mommy:

Unintentionally, my wash day turned into two days, because I wanted to try deep conditioning on dry hair. Sunday I did a warm oil/honey treatment on my hair as step 1, but realized I should probably DC after shampooing, instead of before.

Feeling overwhelmed with the daunting task ahead, I finally went full fledged and committed to this process. I was so doing this. Here’s what I did:

1.    Applied Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose condish with olive oil and honey to dry hair, then sat under the dryer for 30 min.

2.    Washed with Elucence, focusing on the scalp.

3.    Conditioned with Aussie, then applied leave in.

Fast forward to Day 2.

1.    Applied GVP version of Biolage Matrix conditioning balm to dry hair and sat under the dryer for 30 min.

2.    Waited about 15 min before applying Aussie Moist on top, then rinsed both (a la “Cool and Seal” method)

3.   Lightly blotted my hair with a T-shirt and applied Camille Rose Moisture milk to wet (but not dripping) hair, followed by jojoba oil for sealing.

3.    Sectioned and detangled hair to allow for 10-15 min. of air drying. Here I already noticed a difference in my hair. Detangling was a breeze and the strands felt like butter.

4.    Applied my styler of choice, Camille Rose Jai Twisting Butter to each section, twisted, and formed bantu knots.

5.    Wrapped my pelo in my satin scarf and called it a day

The entire process took about 1.5 hours, but obviously a majority of the time was spent under the dryer to aid in product penetration. My pelo is loving me right now- I can already tell a difference in the moisture retention and curl definition when I was detangling and styling.

Juicy curls.

I’m praying for results that are as awesome as the process; this may just be the new weekly regimen that I adopt!
