- Dear Product Junkie, I know your struggle. The leave-ins, creams, custards, oils, and sprays in your cabinet aren’t all being put to good use and its getting pretty crowded. There’s a tinge of guilt that overcomes you when you buy a new product because that cream you bought last year hasn’t been used again since that last twist out fail. But you tread on in an effort to upgrade your rotation and pray that one day, that custard you tried two years ago will do you right.
No more.
Here are 3 tips for making those unused products work for you.
1. Donate. Is there a Women’s or family shelter in your area? Don’t forget that personal items and toiletries are sometimes needed just as much as clothes and other items. Make someone’s day and gift or donate products from your stash!
2. Change their purpose. I hate trashing items I can’t use. And sometimes stashing them to the side while I prepare a “gift” or “donate” bag takes up too much space and ends up being a 3-6 month project that I didn’t plan on committing to. If products are taking up space in your cabinets, you might as well find other uses for them. For example, I recently came across a Shea Moisture wash that was too harsh for my daughter’s hair and skin. I decided to try it as a makeup brush cleaner. It worked perfectly!! Granted, I won’t repurchase it just for that purpose, but it made me feel better knowing it served a purpose while being in my posession. There are countless ways you can recycle unwanted hair products. A conditioner doubles great as shaving cream (those baby soft legs though) or as the base in a DIY conditioning treatment. Some thick butters can double as body moisturizers or creams. The possibilities are endless, and its fun repurposing products and finding new ways to make them work for my family!
3. Have a hair party. I am long overdue for a hair party with curlfriends. But I’ve always loved the idea of getting together to exchange hair products, and sample new things. Of course, these are just incentives to the quality time and good company you’ve really shown up for!
What do you do with those products unused products in your cabinets?
